Inspired by the restaurant's logo, designer Chi Ling Leung, known for her innovative designs, created a captivating interior for Hung Wan. The design features dancing shapes with perforated dots on a bronze backdrop, reminiscent of pinwheels. The use of grey-colored and laminated glass partitions separates the booth seats, while pinwheel pendant lamps provide a warm orange shade throughout the restaurant.
The renovation project, spanning 6000 square feet, began in December 2013 and was completed in July 2014 in Shenzhen, PRC. The construction was divided into three phases to ensure a smooth and efficient process.
One of the key changes made to enhance the dining experience was relocating the service bar to the center of the restaurant. This strategic move allows for faster service and creates a focal point for customers. Additionally, the design maximizes the number of booth seats, which are highly popular in the mainland China market.
The use of bronze-colored stainless steel, special laminated glass, and orange-red paint adds a touch of elegance and vibrancy to the space. The pinwheel pattern, played with in different materials and scales, is transformed into ceiling feature lights, further enhancing the overall design.
The Hung Wan restaurant design, created by Chi Ling Leung, received the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in 2015 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This award recognizes designs that exhibit outstanding creativity and resourcefulness, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology. The design not only showcases strong technical and creative skills but also contributes to improving the quality of life, making the world a better place.
